What I am reading in July:
Book of the Month - Booth by Karen Joy Fowler
A Nonfiction Book - A Worse Place Than Hell by John Matteson
A romance novel - Mrs. Nash’s Ashes by Sarah Adler
A recommended book - Manhunt by James L. Swanson
A Mass Book Challenge - Gods and Generals by Jeff Shaara (Library Book)
A Pop Sugar Challenger - Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders (Name in the title)
I’m so late to posting about my July reading list, but I’m finally getting around to it. The sad part is I’ve had the stack sitting around for ages. A podcast I listen to recommended Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase Lincoln’s Killer by James L. Swanson and I decided, since it was the 160th anniversary of Gettysburg at the beginning of July, I thought the Civil War would be a good topic this month. I’ve had Karen Joy Fowler’s Booth and George Saunder’s Lincoln in the Bardo on my list for a long time so this seemed the perfect opportunity to finally read them. My in-laws live in Fredericksburg and it is one of my favorite places to visit, so I grabbed A Worse Place Than Hell by John Matteson so I could read a little more about the battle of Fredericksburg.
I tried to find a Civil War romance but you know, I wasn’t feeling very historical with my romance choices lately. But Mrs. Nash’s Ashes by Sarah Adler is a travel romance that starts in DC and ends up in Florida, so I felt like I was kinda sorta tying it in? It didn’t really matter, I was dying to read it so I put it on my list. I guess that is my prerogative right?
